Market Harborough Golf Club has a flourishing Junior Section of over 70 members run by our Junior Golf Organiser Jane Burley in conjunction with our Professional Kegan Jamieson and a number of volunteers. We aim to offer the chance to have fun, learn and play golf in a safe and enjoyable environment.
Boys and girls participate on an equal basis and are offered experienced coaching and competitive opportunities. Our juniors have the opportunity to use our clubhouse, practice facilities, Simulator, 5 Hole Academy Course and the main golf course (subject to ability and handicap) as well as the chance to play on our 9 Reciprocal courses, Junior and Senior competitions and inter club matches.
Junior can also apply for a Members Bar Card which can be used to purchase soft drinks, food from the Bar and goods from the Pro Shop. We find this gives Parents/Cares the peace of mind that their children do not have to carry cash when they are at the Club.
For all other enquiries contact Jane Burley on 07885311641.
Junior Captain – Sophie Burley
I was delighted when I found out I was chosen to be Junior Captain 2021 for Market Harborough Golf Club for a second year, this again will be an exciting opportunity that’ll always be remembered.
I have been surrounded by golf as both my parents play. I have always known how to hit a golf ball, even with plastic clubs! My favourite club was a 7 iron and still is 12 years later!! I have had a competitive spirit as I have played football from the age of 4, for boys and girls. I have played in Flag 50 golf events, organized by Leicestershire County girls. including some at Market Harborough Golf Club in 2010. Market Harborough Golf Club was the first golf club I have joined and have been since since April 2015 with a starting handicap of 36. I was stuck on 36 for a long time but being cut in September 2018 to 35 was the beginning, weeks later I was cut further to 33. Once the season began again I went from 32 to 25 in 4 months. When I am off school I love to play golf in the ladies and mixed competitions alongside junior competitions.
I currently go to school at Southfield School in Kettering. I am 16 years old and in the sixth form taking 3 subjects: Psychology, Sociology and Geography. I take part in as many things as I can that the school has to offer. With regard to football, I have played at grass roots level and also academy’s such as, Northampton Town, Leicester City and Coventry City Ladies.
I am thrilled for next year when I will be junior captain again as I will be supporting and partaking in the junior league matches, representing the club and the county.
