Mens Captain –

      Eric Graham

I have the honour to be the captain of the Men’s Section of our club for the 2022 season and I would like to extend a warm welcome to all golfers, whether experienced or new to the game.

The course at Market Harborough, with its fair share of water hazards and undulating fairways, offers a challenge to golfers of all abilities.  The closing three holes never disappoint, offering hope and despair in equal measure.  Many visitors choose to come back, with the aim of improving their scores on that closing trio of holes.

The Men’s Section has grown significantly over the last couple of years and continues to attract new players.  Members have the opportunity to play in a full range of honours board competitions throughout the year.  The summer is particularly busy with a competition on either Saturday or Sunday each weekend and there are also competitions during the week.  Older male golfers can join the Seniors Sub-Section where competitions are played on Wednesdays throughout the year.  MHGC is not all about competitive golf and men meet up throughout the week for a friendly round.  Our online booking system makes it particularly easy for members to join up with other golfers.

Market Harborough Golf Club is affiliated to the Leicestershire and Rutland Golf Union and we enter teams in both the Scratch and Handicap Leagues and various knockout competitions.   The scratch team achieved promotion in 2021, moving from division four to division three.  There is also a Social team who play fourteen matches during the summer months and players of a wide range of abilities enjoy this friendly format.  Those interested in mixed golf will not be disappointed.  A number of the club competitions are open to both genders and there are mixed matches against other local clubs.

Reciprocal golf is popular at MHGC.  We have reciprocal arrangements with eleven clubs enabling members to play golf at a range of clubs as part of the subscription fee.

The Juniors section at MHGC is particularly strong and is the home of The Shires Junior Golf Tour.  Kegan Jamieson, our professional, runs the KJ Golf Academy at the club and Saturday morning sees upwards of seventy five juniors, of all ages, receiving expert tuition.  There is no better place to start for a young person interested in golf.

Whatever your age or handicap status a warm welcome awaits you at Market Harborough and we look forward to meeting you soon.
