Men's Captain – Dan Thomas

To take on the role of Captain at Market Harborough Golf Club is truly an honour and a privilege.  It’s fair to say that I have a very storied history with this Club – a place I love and am very passionate about.

My journey with this fantastic Club began way back on Good Friday in 1997, when I played my first ever round of golf.  136 shots later I was hooked and joined a few weeks after.  I went on to become Junior Captain in 2002 and later that year began working in the Pro Shop, choosing to turn professional.  I spent the best part of a decade serving the Club’s incredible membership before stepping away from the game in 2011.  Fast forward 7 years, it’s 2018 and I was back, hooked on the game again, amateur status in my pocket and loving being a member once again.

I am absolutely delighted to have Paul ‘Humpo’ Humphreys alongside me this year as my Vice Captain.  Our current Membership Director, I know how much it means to him to be elected VC and I couldn’t wish to be supported by a better guy.

It has been fantastic supporting outgoing Captain, Mark Frith over the last 12 months, and he has ensured I am well versed as I take on my own captaincy.  Mark has done a tremendous job as Captain and there is no doubt my year in office has been made easier in following the great work he has done.

Our Club finds itself in a really strong position moving into 2026.  The recent formation of the new Board of directors has the Club going from strength to strength both strategically and commercially off the course and on the course, well… what can I say?  There are very few superlatives that haven’t been used to describe our wonderful golf course this year – both from members and visitors alike.  Head Greenkeeper, Lee Wenlock, and his team have presented a course that has played simply beautifully all year.  The greens have rolled better than I have ever known in my near 30 years of playing the course.  I am incredibly fortunate to play a lot of golf across our county and beyond and they have been second to none.  The significant investment made in purchasing the new irrigation system is clearly bearing fruit and showing exactly why it was so important.  Bravo, Wennas!  Long may it continue.

Our professional team, led by Kegan Jamieson continue to show innovation in their approach to growing the game, offering coaching across all sections, a fully stocked pro shop and an unrivalled dedication to junior golf.

Our catering team, led by Neil and Lisa have moved our catering operation to the next level over the last 6 months and is testament to the Club’s commitment to providing a memorable experience for its members and visitors.

So, if you are reading this and haven’t yet had the chance to play Market Harborough Golf Club, simply put, it is a must.  Furthermore, if you are looking for a place to become a member and call home, that offers a truly fantastic course with amazing views.  Has competition as well as a great social section.  Gives you the opportunity to play a host of other courses through its reciprocal arrangements with Clubs near and far, and of course a warm welcome always - look no further.  It would be my absolute pleasure to welcome you and show you what we have to offer.
