Ladies Golf

Ladies' Captain - Evonne Birch

I joined Market Harborough Golf Club in 2021, after joining the ladies academy with a good friend.  I was totally hooked, and flashed back to a comment my husband said to me back in 2001 when we met.  He was part of a society and would play once a week over in Northampton.  'When you get that noise from hitting the ball, you will be hooked no matter how the rest of your round is'.  My interest of golf was triggered back then, but I was actively still playing hockey and with the balance of a young family and work, didn’t convert into the sport of golf at this time.

How true his words have turned out to be, I am now completely hooked and fortunately have even been able to undertake my job role in compressed hours, so I am able to play weekly on a Tuesday with the ladies, as well as other times at the weekend, plus social golf and competitions.  You will see me out on the course in all weathers, as playing golf encompasses so much.

I was born and raised in Corby just down the road, and moved to Market Harborough in 2004 with my 3 boys and husband.  I am very proud of my Corby roots, my family and friends, the role they have all played has shaping the person I am today.

I approach my golf in the same way I do all areas of my life.  In giving it my best, whilst at the same time enjoying it, and ensuring that it's inclusive, and fun for others.  I love the comradery and the lifelong friendships that I have made and the enjoyment on and off the course.  Also the pleasure it brings in seeing new girls and ladies take up the sport.  The ladies' section will welcome you with open arms, and support your golf journey in any way that we can.

The ladies section is integrated within the Golf Club, works closely with the juniors, men’s, and seniors sections.  Through our steering groups, social events and competitions, in our joined up approach, supporting golf to be enjoyable for all.

I feel extremely honoured and privileged to be Ladies Captain for 2025-2026, walking in the shoes of those who have gone before me.

Welcome to the Ladies Section of Market Harborough Golf Club!

We are a friendly and inclusive section and whether you are an experienced player or a beginner you can be assured of a warm welcome. As well as social golf, we run many competitions throughout the year.

We hope you will find the following information of use.

Ladies Morning

Tuesday morning tee times between 8.30-10.30 a.m. are reserved for ladies only.  During the winter months we play very informal and friendly competitions encompassing interesting and fun formats.  In the summer, the majority of our Tuesday competitions are qualifiers that count towards your handicap.  There are several national competitions (generally in pairs) run throughout the season too.

Working Ladies

We are fully aware that many ladies still work and cannot play on a weekday.  As a result we have flexibility of tee times on a Saturday, which are paired with the ladies' Tuesday games, so that you can be included in the weekly competitions.  Similarly, working ladies are encouraged to play on a Tuesday evening in the summer months, whilst daylight permits.

Ladies Academy

Our golf professionals run three academy sessions every Thursday evening to accommodate all levels.  These are very well attended and provide a perfect introduction to golf.  The sessions are 6:00 p.m. for beginners (no handicap), 7:00 p.m. Intermediate (18+ handicap) and 8:00 p.m. for advanced players (under 18 handicap).  Most ladies new to the game become 'hooked' and take the decision to join the Club as flexible members to begin with and then onto full membership.  Full details of our memberships are on our website.

Competitions

In addition to our weekly Tuesday competitions there are plenty more you can get involved in, as follows:

Club Knockouts -  singles, pairs and mixed pairs

Friendly Matches -  both within the Club and against other Clubs.  Ladies and mixed

Leagues - Handicap, Scratch and County

National Competitions - Kyocera, Coronation Foursomes, PING 4BBB

Juniors

There is a large Junior Section at the club who meet on a Saturday morning.  All girls who are members with a handicap are welcome to join the ladies on a Tuesday morning in the school holidays.
